What Does DS Mean in a Car?

When you see "DS" written on your car, it usually refers to "Drive Sport" mode. To activate this setting, simply press or lever located next to your gear shifter and activate this setting by pressing either its button or lever. Driving Sport mode enhances engine performance for an exciting drive while placing additional strain on fuel economy; as a result, its use should only be utilized occasionally.

The DS brand may still be relatively young, but they've already produced some high-quality cars. The DS 3 is currently the best-selling model with an owner rating of 4.2 on CarBuyer; while their largest SUV, the DS 7 Crossback, competes directly against Jaguar E-Pace and Volvo XC40 models.

However, the DS brand still finds itself struggling to gain a greater presence. Many people remain unclear as to what exactly this premium vehicle stands for and where its place in the market. Partly this could be down to six years as an extra badge on Citroen models which represented those with more luxurious finishes and features.

From 2024, DS will transition from its former brand identity and transition into an electric-only brand, becoming the first member of Stellantis Group - including Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat - to do so. The DS 7 Crossback will become its inaugural vehicle under this new branding; though its platform remains shared with both Citroen C5 Aircross and Peugeot 5008 vehicles. There will be five trim levels of this SUV: Elegance to Performance Line to Prestige with Ultra Prestige as its flagship option.
