Franco Chin is an IT professional with a passion for providing authentic Malaysian cuisine in Katy and uniting the area's Malaysian community over meals that evoke memories from home. After 24 years in IT, he opened Uncle Chin's Kitchen - taking its name from Malaysian custom of calling older relatives "uncle." Using knowledge gained during his technology career to reverse-engineer recipes to recreate that homey taste that has so long been missing in Katy.
Chin and Chang Feng (Wendy), two sisters with deep family roots in Harbin, China's northernmost city geographically (think Maine for culture); however their food reflects that spirit with aromatic stews, braised meats and fermented vegetables that give their meals their unique character.
Curtis Chin's parents taught him the value of asking customers their names and where they came from - an approach which inspired the book he wrote about his childhood in Detroit's Chinatowns. Now a TED Talk speaker and his memoir becoming an exhibit at Detroit Historical Museum, his memoir will also soon have its launch party here at DHM; any proceeds from its sale will benefit its Asian American Heritage Program! Join them on April 8th at this free event - it promises to be delicious evening! See you then!
