Tula's Kitchen was known for offering authentic scratch-made dishes in a contemporary yet comfortable setting - perfect for family dinners, gatherings with friends or business lunches at once!
Elliott "Mack" Waldron was the original owner and operator of Seattle club for many years before passing away at age 82 in January. His self-reliance, hardworking work ethic and affinity for jazz music - having served in both Navy bands for many years as trombonist - were perfect characteristics to open and run such an establishment successfully.
At Tula's during his tenure, local musicians like trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and bassist Roy Hargrove often performed, along with visiting national acts. Additionally, it served as an intimate space with blinds drawn across its windows that cast moody red lighting from its dim lighting into moody red-lit shadow - no seat was ever bad here!
Last year, the owners of Dion's introduced Tula's Kitchen as a sister concept to Dion's, turning a former IHOP location at Wyoming Boulevard and Paseo del Norte into a cozy new dining spot offering an eclectic vegan-friendly menu in an intimate candlelit space decorated in red.
At La Folie Restaurant and Lounge Bar in Nicaragua City, their menu offers comforting fare. My favorite savory dish was fritanga: an irresistibly tasty combination plate containing fried pork seasoned with achiote spice, crispy plantains and golden cheese fritters. Also, try arroz tula for something different; Nicaragua's answer to paella that has elements similar to jambalaya. Among their dessert offerings you will find both yogurt tiramisu and an irresistibly indulgent dream bar dessert!
