Top Finds From Designing Miami and Beyond

At the start of November, Miami played host to art and design enthusiasts from around the globe for six days of design reveals and temporary installations. Below, AD editors share their favorite finds from both fairs as well as beyond.

Eilyn and Ray Jimenez wake up side-by-side, take coffee together, and explore local restaurants together - but unlike many married couples they're business rivals who run two interior design firms catering to high-end clients. On Netflix's reality series Designing Miami the "young Latino power couple" navigate their relationship alongside revamping luxury Florida homes for clients.

Eilyn, founder of Sire Design, describes herself as a minimalist with an uncluttered aesthetic that is inspired by modernism principles. Her firm's mission is to "bring creative solutions to everyday living". Ray, owner of Raymond Nicolas Design House, considers himself more of a maximalist who likes taking risks and bold designs inspired by Cuban and Dominican heritage.

Eilyn and Ray often clash over design styles, yet both agree on prioritizing client interests first. Eilyn said one of her most absurd client requests involved creating an underground bunker connecting a closet for hiding sex dolls from religious families; Ray has his own crazy tale: once having to help dispose of an inflatable sex doll.
