The Legend of the Lechuza

The lechuza is a terrifying creature in Mexican and Texano folklore, depicted as an old woman who transforms herself into an enormous owl to seek revenge against those she feels have wronged her in her lifetime. According to some tales, she kills children belonging to individuals whom she feels have wronged her during their lives or she hunts drunkards, attacking them repeatedly before devouring infants (especially unbaptized ones).

The Owl-Woman can be found throughout Mexico and Texas under various names; all tell the same tale: she's a witch who sold their soul to Satan and now appears at night as an unnatural beast that changes shape at will - often crying like a baby or even attacking cars late at night! Those who encounter her may report hearing her wail or witnessing her flying around like an owl-woman monster.

According to popular belief, lechuza can only be killed using four main strategies: prayer, tying seven knots in a rope or string, consulting a curandera, or blasting it with a gun. Unfortunately, many stories exist of people claiming they've injured or even killed this creature only for it to return with even greater vengeance!

Spotting a lechuza can be taken as an omen that someone in your family will pass soon; however, there have also been reports of her appearing simply to warn of impending danger - often with whistling accompanying her presence and sometimes crying from within the woods! For this reason it's wise to stay inside and lock all doors as soon as she appears.
