How to Maintain a Copper Kitchen Sink

copper kitchen sink

Copper kitchen sinks are beloved pieces, yet can sometimes seem daunting in their care requirements. But don't let that put you off; copper sinks don't require too much extra work if cared for correctly! In reality, however, maintaining one doesn't require too much additional time or effort from you.

Copper may be durable material, but it can dent easily so when selecting your copper sink it's wise to opt for one with higher gauge numbers like 16 or 17 (thinner copper may warp over time). Also be sure that its cold-rolled rather than annealed and any seams welded rather than soldered (since soldered seams tend to fail more easily over time).

Copper sinks will develop an attractive patina over time that adds rustic farmhouse charm. To speed up this process, keep it dry between uses, avoid leaving acid-based cleaning products or food in the sink for extended periods of time, and apply copper wax or furniture polish every few weeks.

Copper's natural antimicrobial properties kill bacteria, making it an excellent choice for kitchen sinks. Copper sinks prevent cross-contamination of germs while helping eliminate musty odors caused by wet dishes left sitting in your sink - especially important when living with children or pets! For this reason, hospital and group living homes commonly utilize copper sinks.
