Since the '90s, DC has seen its share of celebrity chefs opening branches of their empires from New York, California or elsewhere - most notably Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak and Jean-Georges Vongerichten's J&G respectively) or hotel dining rooms.
Gordon Ramsay opened Hell's Kitchen at District Wharf in January with great fanfare. This massive two-story waterfront eatery extends out into Washington Channel with views on three sides, giving diners breathtaking water views from every table and is more pronounced than his other local outposts such as his cozy fish-and-chips spot across from it. Furthermore, unlike the casual Fish & Chips which has no bar service whatsoever - unlike this full service Hell's Kitchen that makes its debut outside a hotel or casino; Christina Wilson who directed Season 10 episode will lead their kitchen team as Executive chef.
Gordo-inspired decor: video displays of Gordon Ramsay baring his teeth by the door; images of him, chef-jacketed and cross-armed, dot the walls; flames flicker across video screens; red and blue chefs wearing respective uniforms take pride of place at an enormous open kitchen; yet all while remaining comfortable and elegant despite its waterfront locale.
The menu offers both classics and dishes unique to DC. There's Beef Wellington and Sticky Toffee Pudding on it; but as ingredients change with seasons (think spring/summer festival ingredients!), expect that menu to adapt accordingly - for instance featuring ingredients from this year's National Cherry Blossom Festival as part of it all.
